BREAAM is the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method and is the most frequently used environmental assessment applied to buildings, ensuring that properties reach high standards in terms of environmental survey efficiency. BREEAM awards are judged with a grading system against set criteria.
The grades are as follows – PASS, GOOD, and VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT and OUTSTANDING. To ensure a high rating, the property must achieve a high score in all eight of the BREEAM environmental categories.
The categories are: management, health and well-being, energy, transport, water, land use and site ecology, materials and finally, waste and pollution.
